What are love handles?
Love handles is a common slang term, that is actually excess skin that can be found on the hips region. If someone with love handles wears tight clothing they can really stand out, often making people self-conscious and less confident. Overall love handles are a sign that there is too much fat around the tummy and hip areas.
What causes love handles?
The main reason for love handles forming is the build-up of fat. Basically, your fat cells grow as your body takes in excess calories, this also occurs if you don't burn as many calories as you consume via diet and lack of exercise. Over a period of time, these fat cells build up in noticeable areas, such as the waist, tummy, booty and hips.
Fat cells can grow & accumulate anywhere in the body, but it's more likely to build up fat in particular areas. The hips, lower back and tummy are some of the first places that fat cells build up when calorie intake is too much. Other factors that can contribute to love handles forming are:

- your age, tummy fat is more likely to occur as we age and become less active.
