Some comments regarding the weight loss jab trend from Registered Doctors:
Dr. Omar K - The weight loss jab can be an effective tool for managing obesity, especially for individuals who have tried and failed with lifestyle interventions. It can help improve metabolic markers and reduce weight, which in turn can lead to improved overall health outcomes.
Dr. Kimberly M - As a professional physician, I do recommend the use of GLP-1 analogues (semaglutide and liraglutide) in selected patients such as those living with obesity (BMI ≥30kg/m2) and overweight with ≥1 weight related comorbidity (BMI ≥27 kg/m2) alongside counseling diet and physical activity. I don’t think its safe to use this trend without medical prescription. And as a surgeon I believe it can be a good option to avoid bariatric metabolic surgery, or even use it as a bridge therapy to reduce weight and obtain better preoperative conditions for the patient.
Dr. Dawit A - I wouldn’t recommend the weight loss jab to patients who casually want to lose some weight for aesthetic purposes only, since the risks outweigh the benefits, those kinds of people can try with diet and exercise. People who are morbidly obese and have other health conditions directly caused by the obesity, since the benefits will outweigh the risks, it is highly recommended.
Dr. Ali G - The weight loss jab trend seems like a breakthrough yet it has its own fair share of side effects Such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, constipation, injection site reaction, hypoglycemia, headaches and tiredness. Many researchers and well known medical practitioners have claimed the slimming injections to be safe however there’s an another school of thought that believes that there are slower yet healthier ways to reduce your body mass.
Dr. Maya P - While the weight loss jab may not be suitable for everyone, it can be a viable option for individuals with serious obesity who have not been able to lose weight through other means. It can provide initial weight loss and help individuals achieve a healthier weight, which can in turn improve their overall health. However, it is important to carefully consider the potential risks and benefits of the jab and to work with a healthcare provider to monitor its use.
